The Foundation for Teen Health 2024 Top Golf
Hope for the Future - Take your Best Shot
On October 20, 2024, the Foundation for Teen Health hosted its fourth annual Top Golf fundraising event, which turned out to be a resounding success. The event was a testament to the dedication and hard work of our honorary chairwoman Marian Harper, chairwoman Danielle White, and silent auction chair Phyllis Williams, who secured an impressive array of silent auction items.
Event Theme and Highlights
This year's theme, "Hope for the Future – Take your Best Shot," set the stage for a day filled with fun and friendly competition. We had youngsters equipped with miniature clubs embraced the challenge with smiles and laughter. At the other end of the spectrum, we have a remarkable golfer in his 90s, affectionately known as Doc Sims. His presence at the event serves as a testament to the benefits of staying active and engaged in sports, no matter one's age. The day unfolded with players of all ages interacting, sharing tips, and cheering each other on. Teams competed enthusiastically for the top prize. The winning team, Royalty, led by Audrey and Lee Mitchell, claimed first place. They were followed by the Cowboys team consisting of Peter, Traci, and Lawton Licata, along with their friends Bobby, Ellen, Katie and John Conner, who secured second place. The Greenway girls, lifelong friends since preschool, showed great spirit despite finishing in last place.
Prizes and Auction Highlights
Winners were rewarded with a gift bag from the Houston Astros Foundation, brimming with Astros memorabilia. Every attendee also received a coffee table book capturing the Houston Astros season, adding a special touch to the event. The silent auction featured 30 items catering to diverse interests, and it was delightful to witness participants like Doe Florsheim, Roslyn Bazzelle, Anne White, Art Aleman, and George Woods strategizing their bids.
Supporting Teen Health Initiatives
During the event, Dr. Peggy Smith provided insight into the Foundation's mission and the vital work carried out by the Baylor College of Medicine Teen Clinics. She highlighted the clinics' commitment to offering quality healthcare at no cost to individuals aged 13-24, emphasizing the holistic approach to fostering their growth into contributing community members.
Among the clinics' initiatives is Project Ascend, which offers a pathway to healthcare careers for young participants. This year's Top Golf event dedicates a portion of the proceeds to support Ascend by providing educational stipends for its participants and to supporting the clinic’ initiatives for patient care.
Gratitude to Our Supporters
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our generous donors, including HEB, the Bauer Foundation, the Madison Charitable Fund, Doe and Henry Florsheim, J Squared Foundation, and The Astros Foundation. Your contributions are instrumental in advancing the Foundation for Teen Health's mission.
We eagerly anticipate next year's Top Golf event and look forward to continuing our collaborative efforts towards a shared vision of fostering healthy, educated teens and young adults.
